Sycamore Pool Closes Early for Season Due to Equipment Failure, Park District Reports – Shaw Local

SYCAMORE — The Sycamore Community Pool closed for the season a few weeks early due to what Sycamore Park District officials said Thursday was an ongoing equipment failure.

According to a social media post published The pool was scheduled to close for the August 16 season on Thursday afternoon, but had to close early after attempts to fix an equipment problem were unsuccessful.

Equipment failures that staff have resolved throughout the week will not be repaired until the scheduled closing date of August 16,” the post read. “Thank you to all of this year’s pass holders, visitors and rescuers for a great season – we’re sorry to see it end early.”

Residents with a Sycamore Park District Water Pass can continue to use theirs at the Genoa Pool, 400 E. Second St. due to a partnership with the Genoa Township Park District, according to the post. .

The pool’s longevity of nearly 40 years remains a concern, park district officials said.

Although the Board of Commissioners, as well as staff, are concerned about the age of this 39-year-old facility, they have been able to maintain the equipment to date,” the post read. “Further assessment of this equipment failure will be completed over the next two weeks and at that time the Board will be in a position to address the future of this facility.”

The aging pool infrastructure has also been a focal point at DeKalb over the past few years as the DeKalb Park District attempts to solicit community input to better determine a replacement plan or other options for Hopkins Pool.
