The Apex has caused a stir among customers with disabilities by installing new equipment to help them feel more independent when changing and getting ready to exercise.
a pool winch and nurse’s bench were unveiled at the New Ross swimming pool and gymnasium complex in Bosheen.
Apex chief executive Mark Winkle said the equipment has been well received by members and is already in heavy use.
Mr Winkle said the hoist allows customers to get up from their wheelchairs onto the changing table.
“Everything is adjustable to suit different heights and all ages. We’ve wanted to get this equipment for some time, ”he said.
Guests are lifted by a staff member operated winch in and out of the pool.
“The funding came after a successful application to Sport Ireland for dormant account funding for the Sports Inclusion Disability Plan Capital Supports initiative, which is designed to support the infrastructure of the facilities to increase the number of people with disabilities participating. sport and physical activity in their community.
“In partnership with Apex, the Municipal District of New Ross and Sports Active Wexford, we were able to provide targeted equipment and infrastructure to increase opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sports and physical activities in their community,” Mr Winkle said.
