Commission scolaire de Viroqua accepts an offer to add equipment to the elementary school playground | New

The Viroqua school board approved an offer at its June 20 meeting to add equipment and more than double the surface of rubber poured at the elementary school playground.

Board members accepted Minnesota Wisconsin Playground’s offer of $124,989.84. Pat Olbert, Elementary Director, said this new equipment and expanded cast rubber surface is Phase 2 of the playground project. Phase 1 was completed in 2014.

Olbert said the expanded cast rubber surface allows for greater accessibility. This will add more recess options for elementary students and begin moving the majority of equipment behind the school building for safety and better supervision over the next few years, as recommended by the study by facility planning. There are three slides of different heights and a climber among the different features. He said it’s possible the work could be done before the snow falls. Minnesota Wisconsin Playground is the same company that did the first phase.

The board accepted the resignations of fourth grade teacher Ericka Arenz and high school special education teacher Amanda Hennessy. They approved the following nominations: Stephanie Ivey, teacher at .5 Laurel High School; and Matthew Schoch, special educator.
